It’s half way through the New Year. 2016. Many of us make resolutions regarding self improvement or organization.  I cleaned out my garage and resolved to spend more time with my family. In my business, I resolved to keep my website updated with relevant information and recent client sessions! I wrote these down, framed them and placed it on my desk.  There it is always reminding me in case I backslide!!

What did you resolve this year?  In this age of personal and business websites, it is important to put your best face forward.  People visiting your site want to See you and then learn a little about you possibly before they meet you face to face or at least through FaceTime or Skype!  A first impression is important.  Be aware of what that actually looks like to a stranger and potential client or employer.  You don’t want the photo to be disingenuous, but reflect your personality and the impression you want to project.

Your Profile photo can say many things about you.   Who is your audience and what impression would you like to make?  Are you a realtor who wants to sell million dollar homes? Are you an Actor/Actress who wants to land the roles you audition for? Do you own your own company and want your employees to have head shots that reflect your business worth?

I had a realtor contact me for a new head shot recently.  Her previous head shot for her business card was a cell phone photo taken on a porch.  She looked like a soccer mom with a genuine smile and likable personality. What she didn’t look like was what she wanted to project in the business world—>A realtor who, while was likable and genuine also took her job seriously handling one of her client’s most important life decisions!

What does that look like and how do you achieve it?  A professional photo is a good start. I don’t mean having your photo taken by anyone with a big camera! I mean interviewing a professional head shot photographer and seeing how you feel in their presence.  Are THEY professional? Do you feel comfortable with them?  Do they have a portfolio of photos that you like and project the look you want?  Are they concerned with giving you the best possible lighting and bringing out the best in you in your head shot? Do they listen to your questions and concerns? Do they offer knowledgable advice on wardrobe, makeup, location the overall look and feeling of the head shot?

Several things to consider, but then again, I think we all want to make a good first impression and sometimes that impression is our head shot and web presence.  Consider Dana Niemeier Photography for your head shot and your company’s head shots. The consultation is complimentary and the sessions are relaxed and professional.
