Are You Losing Business Because of an Unprofessional Photo?
Your headshot is often the first impression people get of you—whether on LinkedIn, your website, or a business card. But does one headshot fit all purposes?
The images above showcase how a business professional can benefit from having both a formal and a casual headshot. The professional headshot on the left is ideal for corporate profiles, LinkedIn, and other formal business settings. It radiates confidence and professionalism.
On the right, the more relaxed, casual headshot conveys approachability and warmth, perfect for personal branding, lifestyle blogs, or less formal networking platforms.
Why You Need Both Types of Headshots: Having both types of headshots allows you to tailor your image to the context—whether you’re pitching to clients, networking at events, or building a more personal connection with your audience.
Tips for Choosing the Right Photographer: Not all headshots are created equal. To get the most out of your session, it’s important to select a professional photographer who can bring out both your professional and personal sides. check out their portfolios, social media accounts and websites to see the
In today’s digital age, first impressions are often made online—whether through a website, social media, or email signatures. For businesses, especially those in the corporate world, maintaining a professional and cohesive image is key to building trust and credibility. One simple way to achieve this is through corporate headshots that are uniform across your team.
But why is consistency so important when it comes to headshots? Let’s dive into the benefits and the impact this small detail can have on your business.
1. Building Brand Identity
Your team’s headshots aren’t just a way to showcase the people behind the business—they’re an extension of your brand. When employee photos have a consistent style, background, and lighting, it helps reinforce your company’s identity. Whether your brand is creative and modern or formal and traditional, a unified look strengthens the overall impression.
Imagine visiting a company’s “About Us” page and seeing mismatched headshots—different backgrounds, lighting, and photo quality. This inconsistency can give the impression of a disorganized or unprofessional business. In contrast, consistent corporate headshots signal attention to detail and showcase a cohesive, well-managed organization.
2. Enhancing Professionalism
Consistency equals professionalism. Corporate headshots are used across various platforms—websites, LinkedIn profiles, email signatures, and marketing materials. When your employees’ headshots look unified, it presents your business as organized, reliable, and professional.
Think about the impression you want to leave on potential clients, partners, or stakeholders. A polished and consistent set of headshots shows that your company values its image and takes pride in presenting itself professionally. This helps establish trust even before any formal interaction occurs.
3. Easier Team Updates with Composite Photography
Employee turnover and changing team structures are common in the corporate world. Scheduling new group photos each time someone joins or leaves can be time-consuming and costly. Composite photography offers an efficient solution.
With composite headshots, each team member is photographed individually. Their image can then be added or removed from a group photo without the need to gather everyone in one place. This allows for easy updates while keeping the overall visual consistency intact. As new employees are onboarded, they can seamlessly be incorporated into the team’s imagery.
4. Streamlined Image Management for Administrators
Managing multiple employee headshots in a large company can be challenging. However, when headshots are consistent, administrators can more easily organize and maintain these images for various platforms and uses.
At Dana Niemeier Photography, we offer private galleries with custom file naming to simplify image management. Administrators can quickly download and use the correct headshots for website updates, business cards, and event materials. This not only saves time but also ensures that your company’s professional image is maintained across all platforms.
5. A Professional, Personable Team Presentation
A consistent style across headshots doesn’t mean losing individuality. At Dana Niemeier Photography, we ensure that each headshot session is relaxed and comfortable, allowing every employee’s personality to shine through while still maintaining a professional tone.
This approach presents your team as both approachable and professional—an ideal combination for building client trust and enhancing your brand’s reputation.
Why Consistency in Corporate Headshots Matters
First impressions are made quickly. Whether a potential client is browsing your website or checking your LinkedIn profile, the images they see can shape their opinion of your business. Consistent and professional headshots send a clear message: this is a company that pays attention to detail and values its presentation. It’s a simple but powerful way to build trust from the outset.
If it’s time to refresh your team’s headshots—or get them done for the first time—Dana Niemeier Photography can help. We make the process easy and enjoyable, ensuring that your team looks sharp, cohesive, and ready to make lasting first impressions- those first impressions count.

For makeup, aim for a polished look that enhances your features without appearing too heavy. Your photographer should be able to recommend a stylist that they work with.

What is a composite have to do with Group Photography? A Composite is a single image made up of several individual images! Professional Photographers photograph your employees by themselves and then place them together in a single image! Also, we can take an person’s image and change the color of the background afterwards.
Flexibility: Employees can be added or removed from composite images at any time without needing everyone to be present at the same time for a new photo. This is very beneficial in work environments where staff turnover or changes in team composition are common.
Time Efficiency: Updating a composited photo is typically quicker and requires less time compared to organizing a new group photo session. The need to coordinate schedules and arrange for everyone to be present is eliminated, which can be challenging, especially in large organizations.
Cost-Effectiveness: Expenses can add up with frequent group photo sessions! It is more cost-effective for an employee to drop by the photographer’s studio for a quick session rather than paying for a brand new group photo.
Consistency: Visual consistency in your company’s promotional materials, website, or internal communications can be maintained with a composited image, even as employees come and go. Brand identity and professionalism are reinforced through this consistency.
Accessibility: Digital composite images can be easily stored by the photographer and quickly accessed for editing and sending the new composited photo, ready to be published on your website and media.
Scalability: Changes in team size or organizational structure can be accommodated by composite images without limitations. Whether your company grows rapidly or experiences downsizing, the image can be adjusted accordingly to reflect the current group of employees.
Creative Freedom: Opportunities for creative expression and customization are offered by composite images. Branding elements can be incorporated, backgrounds adjusted, or the image stylized to align with your company’s aesthetic preferences.

Kid’s Headshots are important to have when they are just getting into the business of Community & Regional Theatre and Commercial work. Check out Mr. Personality above! Below, his young lady came to the studio with her mom and they both had professional headshots taken to use in a variety of settings. She is a thoughtful child by nature, I think and we captured that feeling. We also took some nice portraits for the wall as well!
Preparing Your Child
Before you bring your child in for headshots, there are a few things they should know.
This is not a school photo session . Remind them that they are an actor or actress! These photos are meant to show emotion and personality. Practice! Practice! in front of a mirror with your child! It’s OK (and very much encouraged) to be silly! What does surprised look like? What is the look you give when you just don’t believe something someone has told you? Can you giggle? What does it look like when someone has told you the FUNNIEST Joke? A bad smell?? Practice going from no smiling to sloooooowly going all the way to a full on laugh! All of these are used to loosen a child up in front of the camera and try to coax that personality out!
Dress in age appropriate clothing! Beautiful colors that compliment their eye color are always a good idea. No logos or writing on the shirt. Tops with sleeves and possibly a denim jacket, sweater or hoodie. I always like to see the clothing before you bring it in as it helps to choose complimentary backdrops!
Give them a snack before the session. Always a good idea but with NO sugar. Also have their own water bottle. I try to keep the session to 30 minutes so as not to tire them out 🙂
Solo shoot. Most of the time, kids do better if there are no other children around watching them. I know this sounds counterintuitive if they are actors/actresses! The truth is, is that many actors/actresses are usually uncomfortable with people being so close! Especially stage actors/actresses! I use a lens that compels me to be a comfortable distance from them and give them space.
Glasses. Glasses are a super fun and interesting addition!
All set! Kid’s Headshots can be fun and I encourage you and your child to be prepared with the above tips and have a fun time!

I should tell this guy who was concerned about all of the swag generated at trade shows that probably gets thrown away.

Going Green at Trade Shows. It’s a fun atmosphere and everyone wins including the environment.
Most people are not super excited for their Corporate headshot session, but I am here to HELP YOU OUT with a checklist! The only thing you do not have to prepare for is posing. That is my job!!
1-Personal grooming: You are paying for a Professional Headshot, so take some time to prepare.
Gentleman–Go to the barber and get a nice shave/beard grooming nose and ear hair trim. If you have severe tan lines, get the haircut a week out and return for the shaving and hair trimming.
Ladies–Go to the salon and have your highlights/color etc touched up. Also eyebrow and lip grooming 😉 I have a makeup & hair artist that can help with styling day of in studio!
For both: No tanning! This will show up red and harsh in a photograph. A “little color” usually comes off sunburned or an artificial tan may show up orange!
2-Clothing: Please choose your clothing according to your company specs and colors best for you!
Gentlemen:A professional headshot usually requires a well fitted suit and tie for gentlemen. These must be wrinkle free. Best if the shirt is straight from the dry cleaners. The tie must be free of stains. Check. Sometimes stains show up after being worn! Try on that suit you may only wear for special occasions…like headshots 😉 Make sure the jacket does not have “pills” (little rolled up pieces of threads usually in blend fabrics). Check with your company for photography specs and send them on to me! This helps with my lighting and background setup.
Ladies: Sometimes a company requires you wear a jacket. I suggest a well fitted one as it will be buttoned in the front and no double breasted jackets! Usually darker colored jackets work best. Check with your company for specs 😉
No busy patterns. No pilled T-shirts or jackets.
Most headshots are just that>>Headshots, but typically a Corporate shot is waist up with both shoulders in view with one more prominent to the camera. If your company requires something other that this, I need to know! If this is a session just for you for your own company and website/marketing material, then obviously we can be more flexible!
These sessions are stress free. My goal is to photograph you and have you like what you see so that the first impression for your clients is a great one!
Contact me to discuss your individual session or for your entire company!
