7 Tips for a Good Professional Headshot

Do you need tips for getting a good professional headshot? Most people do not like getting a professional headshot taken, but being prepared does lessen the anxiety! You may ask, “Where can I get a professional headshot taken?”. Only go with a professional photographer who has experience and they will lead the way!

These 7 tips should help immensely!

1st Tip for a Good Professional Headshot Purpose: Understand the purpose of your Professional headshot. Are you using it for professional purposes like job applications, LinkedIn, or acting auditions? Knowing the purpose helps you convey the right message through your expression, attire, and overall demeanor. It also helps the photographer prepare for your session!

2nd Tip for a Good Professional Headshot: Style and Look: Research different headshot styles and looks that align with your goals. Headshots can range from formal and corporate to casual and creative. Choose a style that reflects your personality and the image you want to project. Convey your headshot style choices with your photographer OR look for a photographer who specializes in Headshots and check out their style!

3rd Tip for a Good Professional Headshot: Wardrobe: Select appropriate clothing that compliments your style and the purpose of the headshot. Solid colors usually work best, avoiding distracting patterns or logos. Consider the background color and choose contrasting or complementary colors accordingly.

4th Tip for a Good Professional Headshot: Hair and Makeup: Keep your hair and makeup natural and well-groomed. Avoid drastic changes or experimental styles right before your session. For makeup, aim for a polished look that enhances your features without appearing too heavy. Your photographer should be able to recommend a stylist that they work with.

5th Tip for a Good Professional Headshot: Facial Expressions and Body Language: Practice various facial expressions and body postures in front of a mirror to find what works best for you. Your expression should be genuine and engaging, reflecting confidence and approachability. Pay attention to your body language to convey openness and professionalism.

6th Tip for a Good Professional Headshot: Communication with the Photographer: Discuss your goals, preferences, and any concerns with the photographer before the session. Communicate any specific requirements or ideas you have in mind. A good photographer will guide you through the process and help you feel comfortable during the shoot.

7th Tip for a Good Professional Headshot: Relax and Have Fun: Relax and enjoy the process. A natural and relaxed demeanor translates into authentic and appealing professional headshots. Trust the photographer’s expertise and direction, and be open to trying different poses and expressions.

The Costume Shop

I am so fortunate to have a studio located in a historic theatre in a thriving downtown!  I am amazed daily at the creativity The Henegar Center for the Arts produces in all aspects of it’s productions.  The costume shop is no exception.  Did you know that the summer program’s costumes are all hand made right here??! Under the stage where the costume shop is located, our summer Costumer Shannon Reppert, volunteers and interns are sewing, measuring, painting, cutting out and batiking for this summer’s middle school production of “The Lion King Experience”.  It was amazing to witness the thought and hard work that went into every costume with each child in mind.  Here is a short video I put together showing a very small part of the costuming machine!  “The Lion King Experience” opens on the Henegar main stage Friday, July 14th at 7pm and Saturday, July 15 at 2pm and 7pm.  Purchase your tickets at the box office at 625 E. New Haven Ave. or on line HERE. Get out of the summer heat and bring your family!  We can’t wait to see you! HACUNA MATATA!

Gemini Elementary forms a new Theatre Club!

As the resident photographer for The Henegar Center Theatre in downtown Melbourne, it is so great to see elementary school age kids loving theatre!  Maureen Fallon recently directed The Jungle Book when she was asked to bring theatre to the beachside elementary!  The response was incredible!  Students from West Shore Jr. Sr. High School Theatre Troupe #6034 assisted Ms. Fallon in choreography, hair and makeup, lighting and technical support.  The auditorium was sold out and the crown was awesome!  Maureen will be directing the Henegar Center’s  children’s summer theatre .  It’s an incredible experience for kids and the shows are so fun!

Feeling Beautiful

Feeling Beautiful.  What does that mean?  I suppose it has a different meaning for everyone, don’t you think?

For little girls it may mean dressing up like Cinderella or Elsa with pretty sparkly shoes and a crown. For teenagers it may mean a beautiful prom gown with a bump up in the normal hair and makeup.  For the 20 & 30 year olds maybe its a cute cocktail dress, fun hair and makeup or that wedding gown! So what is it for women in their 40’s +?? Hmmm. Maybe a chance to leave the Mom role for a few hours and step back into the world of carefree pampering.   A chance to step away from the day to day routine of your job and the responsibilities.  Having someone else style your hair & apply beautiful makeup while you sip sparkling water or wine.  Stepping in front of the camera and having a professional capture the beauty and wisdom that you have earned while making your mark in this life by working in your profession, taking care of children, parents, partners.  Laughing about your life experiences and Feeling Beautiful in this world while I capture it in photographs and print them for you and your loved ones to treasure.

A Life Preserver. That’s what printed photographs are, really. Preserving memories for yourself and for those you love. A Feel Beautiful Session is relaxed, fun and a little exciting! Beautiful Memories. Beautiful Photographs. Beautiful You.  Beautiful matted prints, albums and wall art are yours to choose from!  Call 321.446.5236 or use this Link to get in touch.

Latte and Dimples…

Joey

Not a bad combo for new to the stage lead actor, Joey Paris in the Henegar Center’s premiere production of Broadway’s reworked “Cry Baby the Musical”!  Ladies, did I mention he was a fire fighter? That alone has milage in my circles 😉  But seriously, the show is really fun and a perfect night out after dinner in downtown Melbourne.  The actors and actresses are talented and give it all they’ve got. They were the best to photograph!  So passionate and dedicated to their roles.  You won’t be disappointed. The lighting is amazing and the set, props and costuming were a blast for a photographer to capture.  For the theatre people…check out Cry Baby’s prisoner number.   Take photos with the cast after the show!  They may even sing and dance with you in the lobby-I love that too…and Latte’s with heart foam.
