When you combine the talents of 12 Brevard County actors & actresses and the ambiance of an abandoned 1926 school building, you have an incredible photo shoot!  It was only about 100 degrees inside the former Melbourne, Florida High School, but what a perfect backdrop for this edgy Henegar Center for the Arts production of “Spring Awakening.”  This cast was making a believer out of me as we shot in the dusty empty former classrooms with boarded up windows and peeling paint on the walls.  There are still green chalk boards in some of the rooms and a beautiful mural in what must of been a History classroom.  Broken windows in the front of the building let in some fresh air, thank heavens, but also allow the rain in! This building just speaks to me for some reason.  It really is a beautiful piece of history that seems to be calling to be saved.  Maybe that is what I hear when I am there.

The production opens August 1 and plays through August 11 Upstairs at The Henegar for the Arts. The set is amazing and costuming is simple and authentic.  Get your tickets now.  This is “Spring Awakening” ‘s debut in Brevard County.  In the meantime…
